Joy Behar Says Republicans Supporting Trump in Midterms Is ‘Good News’ for Democrats

Despite President Donald Trump’s recent spike in approval ratings, ABC’s “The View” co-host Joy Behar said Democrats should be glad that most of their Republican midterm opponents support the president.

“The good news for the Democrats is that almost everyone who’s on the Republican ticket in the midterms is a Trumpy,” Behar said.

Watch Behar’s comments below:

Behar and her fellow co-hosts were discussing Trump’s influence over state races and, in particular, how he may or may not have prompted Rep. Mark Sanford’s (R-S.C.) loss on Tuesday.

While Behar and co-host Meghan McCain seemed to agree that Trump’s support was beneficial in Republican primaries, the same wasn’t necessarily true for general elections.

McCain pointed to the Virginia race between Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Republican Corey Stewart, who promoted confederate symbols.

“The candidate who’s very radical and is for the Confederate flag and other things […] will ultimately, probably end up losing to Tim Kaine,” she said.

Her comments came after Trump congratulated Stewart and tweeted an attack on Kaine:

“Now he runs against a total stiff, Tim Kaine, who is weak on crime and borders, and wants to raise your taxes through the roof,” Trump said of Stewart.

He admonished people from underestimating Stewart’s ability to win and said, “Don’t underestimate Corey, a major chance of winning!”

Earlier in the show, Behar said that Republican primary candidates only supported Trump because they were either “in a cult” or too afraid they would lose their jobs if they criticized him.
