Scalise Calls out Dems for Not Denouncing Violence Against Republicans After GOP Candidate Was Stabbed

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise says that Democrats should speak out about violent protests against conservatives.

During a Wednesday appearance on Fox News, Scalise spoke out about recent attacks on GOP candidates. His interview came on the heels of an incident involving California GOP candidate Rudy Peters, who fought off a man attempting to stab him with a switchblade.

“They need to be denouncing that kind of activity,” Scalise said. “There’s no place for it. If somebody on the right was doing it, we’d be vocally denouncing it. They need to be denouncing it on the Left.”

Scalise was shot in 2017 by a radial Democratic supporter and went through a long recovery process. Now he is calling out Democrats who stay silent as similar situations continue to happen.

“I get angry when I see that because there’s no place for that in American politics,” said Scalise.

Watch:

Recently, some Democrats have encouraged supporters to protest President Donald Trump and other Republicans, and some have been extremely aggressive. Instead of division, Scalise hopes that both sides can speak out against violent protests.

“You should not incite violence or any kind of assaulting people based on their political views, and especially if it’s somebody that’s working in the administration and you’re attacking them because of what they do and what they believe in,” Scalise said. “That’s not what American ideals are about.”
