After the terrifying Las Vegas shooting that took the lives of 58 people and left nearly 500 wounded, a man from Tennessee made the high-end sacrifice.
Sonny Melton, 29, from Big Sandy, Tennessee was one of those who lost his life in what’s now the bloodiest mass shooting in America.
As his wife, Heather Melton, explained, Sonny died after protecting her from raging bullets flying across the concert area. As the shooter used a 32nd window floor to carry out his lethal mission, the bullets were almost impossible to avoid.
“He saved my life. He grabbed me and started running when I felt him get shot in the back,” Heather Melton said in a statement.
“I want everyone to know what a kind-hearted, loving man he was, but at this point, I can barely breathe,” she continued.
The entire thing was elaborated in a tweet by WSMV reporter Forrest Sanders.

The wife, Heather, who works as a surgeon at Henry County Medical Center in Paris, Tennessee, opened up in a shattering statement about the devastating incident. While talking about her husband, she said he “was the most kind-hearted, loving man” she has ever known.
“At this point, I’m in complete disbelief and despair,” she said.
“I don’t know what to say. Sonny was the most kindhearted, loving man I have ever met. He saved my life and lost his,” she noted.
Her husband, Sonny Helton, worked as a nurse at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee after graduating from Union University.
Melton posted earlier that he was planning to go to the Las Vegas concert, a post that is now serving as a memorial, where people across the country pay tribute to him and every other person who lost his life.
“You’re a real hero RIP,” wrote one Facebook user.
“I wish I could take all the pain away. I’ve been glued to the tv wondering how could someone so EVIL do this. My daily prayers will forever include all have lost their lives and their families. May God bless you,” another user commented.
In the tragedy’s aftermath, a GoFundMe campaign was initiated, in order to “raise funds to assist the victims of the tragic Las Vegas shooting.”
