‘Wrong’: Former Acting ICE Director Slams ‘Embarrassment’ Ocasio-Cortez After She Targets ICE and Trump

Newly sworn-in Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) bashed President Donald Trump after he made his argument on why building the southern border wall is necessary for border security, but a former acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement director swiped back at the congresswoman’s criticism.

Appearing on MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” late Tuesday, the Democratic darling called the president’s push for the border wall a “fantasy,” as IJR Red reported.

The New York representative went on to say that immigrants — she only noted women and children — at the U.S.-Mexico border are trying to “seek refuge” and are “acting more American than any person who seeks to keep them out ever will be,” taking aim at ICE.

She said, “No one should feel unsafe in the United States of America” — but not before she went on to bash those who are looking to fight against illegal immigration.

“The one that thing the president has not talked about is the fact he has systematically engaged in the violation of … human rights on our border,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “He has separated children from their families.”

“The president should not be asking for more money to an agency that has systematically violated human rights. The president should be really defending why we are funding such an agency at all, because right now, what we are seeing is death. Right now what we are seeing is the violation of human rights.”

Former acting ICE director sets Ocasio-Cortez straight
After the Democrat called the president “anti-American” and took aim at ICE, former acting ICE director Thomas Homan slammed her for being an “embarrassment” and “wrong.”

“You know, it’s, I mean, every time she opens her mouth she is wrong,” Homan said on Fox News. “Supposedly she went to college in Boston. She must be an embarrassment to that institution.”

Talking about Ocasio-Cortez’s claim that a child died in ICE custody, he set her straight, explaining that “no child died in ICE custody, it was border patrol. They did everything they could do to save that child’s life.”

“You want to blame somebody for deaths in custody,” he continued, “blame the Democrats that caused these loopholes.”

“When you talk about human rights violations, does she realize ICE has arrested and removed hundreds of human rights violators in this country including Nazis and people that commit war crimes in certain parts of Europe? We actually arrest a lot of human rights violators.”

He continued to say that ICE has “arrested and removed thousands of criminals from the streets of New York that were released from jails that she supports,” adding that a “thank you would be nice rather than misinformation that she always puts out.”

Trump’s presidential message on border wall and border security
Ocasio-Cortez’s comments on immigration and the border wall come after President Trump delivered a presidential message in the Oval Office on Tuesday to explain how a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border is necessary to keep out illegal immigrants and drugs, as IJR News reported.

“The only thing that is immoral is the politicians to do nothing and to continue to allow more innocent people to be so horribly victimized,” President Trump said during the televised message, rebuking the Democrats who have stood against funding for the border wall, as IJR Red noted.

“This is the tragic reality of illegal immigration on our southern border. This is the cycle of human suffering that I am determined to end. My administration has presented Congress with a detailed proposal to secure the border and stop the criminal gangs, drug smugglers, and human traffickers. It’s a tremendous problem.”

In day 19 of the partial government shutdown, Trump is standing firm on his demand of $5.6 billion for construction of the border wall as he battles against Democrats. The president is set to visit the southern border on Thursday while weighing the option of declaring the issue a national emergency.
